Management and Treatment

Treatment varies depending on the severity of the symptoms. Rest and anti-inflammatory drugs accompanied by physical therapy is enough for a majority of cases. A smaller number of sufferers need transforaminal epidural steroid injections using fluoroscopic or CT guidance in order to alleviate pain. Ozone injections, cervical halter traction, and combinations of medications have been associated with improvements in patient reported pain in uncontrolled case series. Surgery (foraminotomy, anterior cervical discectomy/decompression, anterior cervical discectomy/decompression and fusion) may be appropriate for patients whose condition does not respond to other treatment methods.
